How can I travel to Chiang Mai?

By bus

From Bangkok, you can come to the North and Northeast Terminal name Moh Chit; there are 12 normal bus tours to Chiang Mai everyday. Oryou can take a high-quality bus with better air conditioners, toilets and larger positions every half an hours from 6.45 a.m to 9 p.m. Besides, the VIP bus has smoother positions and serves 6 tours per day.

There are more than 10 private companies offer bus service from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and depart from multiple places. The round-trip ticket is always cheaper than the one-way ticket (verify from 400-500 baht). However, the government companies are more truthful than the private ones with fixed price and permanent routes.

By train

There are train tours from Hualamphong, Bangkok to Chiang Mai every day. There are many types of train:

–       Original train departs from Hualamphong from 5.30 a.m and 2.30 p.m and arrives to Chiang Mai at 7.45 p.m and 5.35 a.m.

–       Metro departs from Bangkok at 10 p.m and arrives to Chiang Mai at 12.25 p.m.

–       High speed train departs from Bangkok at 8.30 a.m and 7.30 p.m and arrives at 8.20 p.m and 7.30 a.m.

–       Special train departs from 6.30 p.m and 7.30 p.m and arrives at 6.30 a.m and 9.20 a.m.

If you want to have a bed during the trip, you should book the ticket two or three days before the journey.

By plane

The international airlines offer annual trips from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Kunming, Taipei, Vientiane and Yangon to Chiang Mai. The local flights include Bangkok to Chiang Mai of Air Asia airline (4 flights per day); Bangkok to Chiangmai, transfer to Sukhiothai of Bangkok Airway airline (2 flights per day); Pai to Chiang Mai of Siam Ga airline.
